SUMMARY:Extreme Rockpool Safari - Wembury Marine Centre
DESCRIPTION:Join the Wembury Marine Centre (WMC) on an extremely low tide to explore Wembury’s most amazing rockpools\, rarely uncovered by the tide! \n\n\n\nSuitable for children 7+ and all children must be accompanied by a paying adult. \n\n\n\nThis event will involve walking a good distance over very slippery seaweed covered rocks and in deeper rockpools. \n\n\n\nPlease don’t bring nets – the group will follow the Seashore Code and use our hands and tubs (WMC provide tubs)\, but don’t forget your wellies/beach shoes! \n\n\n\nPlease note\, National Trust car parking charges apply at Wembury Beach car park. The car park can fill up very quickly on hot\, sunny days so please leave plenty of time to park and aim to arrive at the Marine Centre 10mins before the event starts. \n\n\n\nCancellation Policy – refunds will be issued up to 1 day before the event starts\, minus the Eventbrite booking fee. If the event is cancelled by us due to poor weather\, you will receive a full refund. \n\n\n\nImportant Accessibility Information \n\n\n\nThe event takes place on Wembury beach and will lead you ~200m over the rocky foreshore. There are steep unguarded edges along the coast. You should expect to be walking over slippery seaweed-covered rocks\, sand\, and other uneven ground. Please dress appropriately – be prepared for unpredictable weather and remember that rocks can be sharp so wearing thick-soled footwear with good grips is essential. There is accessible parking at the centre but no wheelchair access to the beach. There are accessible toilets at the start point but the group will be a 15-minute walk away from these during the event. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 1st May to 30th September though assistance dogs are allowed all year round. However\, the rocky terrain may not be safe for them. \n\n\n\nWMC welcome attendees with an interest in finding out more about local marine life and are keen to learn or improve their identification and rockpooling skills. Instruction is provided verbally by a group leader in English within an outdoor setting where there may be background noise (wind or rain). Printed copies of some information can be made available with advance notice. The event takes place in a popular public place but is not usually crowded once we start rockpooling. Flash photography may be used by staff and participants but is not usually noticeable in daylight. Noise cancelling ear muffs can only be used if the attendee has someone with them who is able to listen and interpret the instructions for them.

SUMMARY:South West Marine Ecosystems Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:The South West Marine Ecosystem (SWME) Conference brings together marine conservationists\, citizen scientists\, researchers\, and managers to share knowledge\, strengthen collaborations\, and inform future monitoring and management of the marine environment. Observations and research from 2025 will contribute to the annual State of the South West Seas report. \n\n\n\nThe conference provides a valuable opportunity for networking and collaboration\, connecting a diverse range of people to exchange ideas and build networks that support marine ecosystems. It strengthens citizen science initiatives and fosters collaboration between users\, researchers\, and policymakers\, while also enhancing links between scientists working on projects across the region. \n\n\n\nA key focus is on ecological and oceanographic observations\, recording major environmental and biological events from 2025 that have affected south-west marine ecosystems. These insights contribute to the State of the SW Seas report\, helping to identify links between environmental changes and marine life. \n\n\n\nThe event also highlights marine species and ecosystem studies\, exploring research on planktonic\, benthic\, and mobile species—including fish\, birds\, mammals\, and turtles—and the ecosystems that support them. Annual updates provide valuable insights into species populations and their responses to environmental and human pressures. \n\n\n\nMarine ecosystem management is another important theme\, with discussions aimed at strengthening connections between policymakers and scientists. The conference promotes science-led management to support the health of south-west marine ecosystems\, ensuring that conservation and policy decisions are based on strong scientific evidence. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, the conference celebrates marine education and outreach\, highlighting and supporting marine education initiatives across the region. It encourages the development of new programmes that promote marine conservation and best practices in environmental education\, interpretation\, and community engagement. \n\n\n\nFinally\, the conference is a chance to come together and celebrate our shared passion for the South West’s marine environment.

SUMMARY:Rockpool Safari - Wembury Marine Centre
DESCRIPTION:Devon Wildlife Trust’s expert team are running a series of guided rockpool safaris where you’ll meet and learn about some of Wembury’s most famous inhabitants\, from crabs to starfish and everything in between. Please note: no dogs are permitted at any of these events.Important Accessibility Information \n\n\n\nThe event takes place on Wembury beach and will lead you ~200m over the rocky foreshore. \n\n\n\nWe welcome attendees with an interest in finding out more about local marine life and are keen to learn or improve their identification and rockpooling skills.
