SUMMARY:Extreme Rockpool Safari - Wembury Marine Centre
DESCRIPTION:Join the Wembury Marine Centre (WMC) on an extremely low tide to explore Wembury’s most amazing rockpools\, rarely uncovered by the tide! \n\n\n\nSuitable for children 7+ and all children must be accompanied by a paying adult. \n\n\n\nThis event will involve walking a good distance over very slippery seaweed covered rocks and in deeper rockpools. \n\n\n\nPlease don’t bring nets – the group will follow the Seashore Code and use our hands and tubs (WMC provide tubs)\, but don’t forget your wellies/beach shoes! \n\n\n\nPlease note\, National Trust car parking charges apply at Wembury Beach car park. The car park can fill up very quickly on hot\, sunny days so please leave plenty of time to park and aim to arrive at the Marine Centre 10mins before the event starts. \n\n\n\nCancellation Policy – refunds will be issued up to 1 day before the event starts\, minus the Eventbrite booking fee. If the event is cancelled by us due to poor weather\, you will receive a full refund. \n\n\n\nImportant Accessibility Information \n\n\n\nThe event takes place on Wembury beach and will lead you ~200m over the rocky foreshore. There are steep unguarded edges along the coast. You should expect to be walking over slippery seaweed-covered rocks\, sand\, and other uneven ground. Please dress appropriately – be prepared for unpredictable weather and remember that rocks can be sharp so wearing thick-soled footwear with good grips is essential. There is accessible parking at the centre but no wheelchair access to the beach. There are accessible toilets at the start point but the group will be a 15-minute walk away from these during the event. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 1st May to 30th September though assistance dogs are allowed all year round. However\, the rocky terrain may not be safe for them. \n\n\n\nWMC welcome attendees with an interest in finding out more about local marine life and are keen to learn or improve their identification and rockpooling skills. Instruction is provided verbally by a group leader in English within an outdoor setting where there may be background noise (wind or rain). Printed copies of some information can be made available with advance notice. The event takes place in a popular public place but is not usually crowded once we start rockpooling. Flash photography may be used by staff and participants but is not usually noticeable in daylight. Noise cancelling ear muffs can only be used if the attendee has someone with them who is able to listen and interpret the instructions for them.

SUMMARY:Coastal Clean Up - Ernesettle Creek
DESCRIPTION:Ernesettle creek is a hidden gem in Plymouth\, an important ecosystem supporting an abundance of wildlife including wading birds\, marine life and maybe even a seal or two! Unfortunately\, it is exposed to a lot of litter\, making this habitat vulnerable to harm and pollution. Can you help us keep this important site clean and protected whilst also contributing to vital data collection used to drive change?  \n\n\n\nDuring our coastal clean we’ll be undertaking a simple litter survey; recording what we find and sending off the data to Marine Conservation Society’s Citizen Science project (BeachWatch). This litter data helps inform campaigns and lobby government\, and has led to influential changes like the UK-wide carrier bag charge\, microbead bans and changes to wet wipe packaging. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re a seasoned volunteer or just dipping your toes into community action\, there’s a spot for you. Come and help make the foreshore a healthy place to live for all creatures whether human or marine and learn about some of the biggest threats facing the marine environment from pollution and plastic. We will provide tea\, coffee and biscuits after!

Wembury Marine Centre events always follow their Seashore Code ethos of enjoying and respecting marine life through observation without disturbing. \n\n\n\nWembury Marine Centre (WMC) snorkel safaris are suitable for children and adults\, including beginners who would like to learn how to snorkel\, or more advanced snorkellers who would enjoy the company of a group. Full kit can be provided and is included in the cost\, but they do require a £20 cash deposit per person on the day\, which will be returned provided no kit is lost or damaged. The beach car park can fill up very quickly on hot\, sunny days so please leave plenty of time to park and aim to arrive at the Centre 15mins before the event starts. \n\n\n\nCancellation/Refund Policy: You will be eligible for a refund if you cancel more than 7 days before the event\, but please note the Eventbrite booking fee will be deducted. Please request a refund via Eventbrite if you wish to cancel or email us. Any cancellation made within 7 days of the event is not eligible for a refund. SUMMARY:Seaquest Sunday - Devon Wildlife Trust
DESCRIPTION:Devon Wildlife Trust’s Marine Engagement team are kicking off monthly sea watches at Wembury Point! Join them on the first Sunday of each month\, to learn all about Devon’s marine megafauna and search the seas from Wembury Point. \n\n\n\nYou will be joined by enthusiastic local volunteers and sea watch experts\, who will show us how to search for cetaceans and sea birds from the land\, as well as learning about their behaviour and fascinating lives at sea. \n\n\n\nWe’ll be collecting vital data while we’re at it\, aligning with Seaquest Southwest\, a citizen science project run by Cornwall Wildlife Trust\, which aims to engage people with the marine environment; to collect data on marine wildlife; and to better understand and conserve marine wildlife.  \n\n\n\nThis event is free of charge\, although donations to Devon Wildlife Trust are gratefully accepted.  \n\n\n\nEvents are weather dependent so please check your emails close to the day in case of cancellation.  \n\n\n\nParking spaces are very limited at Wembury Point National Trust car park. You can reach Wembury Point via a 30 minute walk along the South West Coast Path from Wembury Beach National Trust car park (Church Road\, PL9 0HP).
