COP30: Engaging People with the Sea – Virtual Session
18th November 2025 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

How do we help more people care for the sea and get involved in protecting it? That’s the big question at the heart of this COP30 roundtable.
As climate change and threats to wildlife grow, it’s clear we all need more than just knowledge—we need the chance to actively join in. This idea is called ‘marine citizenship’, which simply means feeling connected and responsible for our local patch of ocean and working together for a healthier world.
Studies show that when people get involved with their local seaside, their actions add up to make a real global difference. The best part? Taking action locally is something everyone can do, no matter where they are.
The roundtable explores clever and creative ways to help people feel that connection. From using digital tools to creative projects, lots of organisations are finding fresh ways to get communities involved with the sea—whether that’s through art, hands-on activities, tech, or group efforts.
You’ll hear practical, inspiring stories from groups big and small: international community projects, universities, city councils and creative industries. Together, we’ll discover what works, how it changes things, and how we can all play a part. The aim is simple—to share the best ideas and find new ways to encourage everyone to be champions for our coasts and seas.
