Throughout this summer, we have expanded our team in many directions to better connect Plymouth with the UK’s first National Marine Park. We are excited for you to meet our new members of the team and how their work will bring waves of positive impacts for our Sound. Get acquainted with Sam Southern!
Sam has recent experience working in education, and across various areas of the heritage sector, including community engagement, exhibition curation, interpretive planning, oral history, and research. She is incredibly passionate about developing ways to improve access to Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. Sam has worked in across the globe with many diverse communities. She is one of the founding members of a community-led puppetry theatre group in Japan, to promote tourism within Tokushima.
‘I am delighted to begin my PhD project: ‘What does the sea mean to me?’ in collaboration with the University of Plymouth and Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, in this ground-breaking opportunity to better understand the connection between people and place. I am passionate about improving accessibility and connecting people with heritage and the natural environment to enhance wellbeing.’ says Sam.
With a huge amount of experience within in community engagement and passion for health and wellbeing through exposure to our heritage, we are excited to have Sam on-board to help us connect more people to Plymouth Sound National Marine Park in many exciting ways for years to come.
