Bitesize: Poetry and Blue Humanities
15th November 2023 @ 1:00 am – 1:45 am
This discussion, hosted by Mandy Bloomfield, explores shorelines as meeting points for various life forms, both human and non-human. It considers how human activities are impacting the ocean’s cultural significance. The talk also prompts enquiries into the potential lessons that shorelines and the sea can impart, with a focus on how literature and art can facilitate understanding.
Mandy Bloomfield, an Associate Professor at the University of Plymouth specializing in Modern and Contemporary Literature, teaches literary studies and environmental humanities. She has authored Archaeopoetics: Word, Image, History (University of Alabama Press, 2016) and has contributed essays on contemporary poetry and ecology to various academic journals. Her current project delves into the relationship between modern poetry and the sea in an era of environmental crisis.
