Great British Beach Clean: Firestone Bay/Devils Point
September 23 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Firestone bay is one of Plymouths most iconic beaches, offering great scenery both above and below the waves! Due to its popularity however, we can often see lots of litter! Can you help us keep this important site clean and protected whilst also contributing to vital data collection used to drive change?
During our coastal clean we’ll be undertaking a microplastics survey; recording what we find and sending off the data to Marine Conservation Society’s Citizen Science project as apart of the Great British Beach Clean Week. This litter data helps inform campaigns and lobby government, and has led to influential changes like the UK-wide carrier bag charge, microbead bans and changes to wet wipe packaging.
Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or just dipping your toes into community action, there’s a spot for you. Come and help make the foreshore a healthy place to live for all creatures whether human or marine and learn about some of the biggest threats facing the marine environment from pollution and plastic. We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits after!
We will meet at Firestone Bay (Devil’s Point) Cafe carpark (just by the steps to the beach) at 13:00.
You will need appropriate clothing and footwear (we recommend walking boots or wellies) for weather.
Location: Firestone bay carpark (What3Words: ///chimp.raves.grin)
Please note: this event is subject to a 24 hour cancellation period in bad weather conditions.
