King Charles III England Coast Path celebration

29th September 2023 @ 10:00 am 30th September 2023 @ 4:00 pm

Celebrate the King Charles III England Coast Path in Plymouth

Two days of free, fun-filled entertainment and activities are taking place along Plymouth’s stunning shoreline, in celebration of the King Charles III England Coast Path – a brand new coastal trail that’s set to be the longest in the world. Hosted by Natural England, the events are an opportunity to enjoy and explore the coastline that forms part of this major new long distance trail.

Get involved in different activities at five locations along the waterfront; Jennycliff, Mount Batten, the Barbican, Plymouth Hoe and Royal William Yard. There will be something for everyone, from guided walks and rockpool rambles, to live entertainment, artistic adventures and family-focused activities.

The Plymouth celebration is one of nine events taking place across the country to introduce the King Charles III England Coast Path. Expected to be fully walkable by the end of 2024, this will be the world’s longest managed coastal path, spanning 2,700 miles around the coast of England. In the West Country, the South West Coast Path – which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary – will form part of the new National Trail.

Common Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) are fierce predators in our National Marine Park. They have on-demand changing camouflage, beak-like jaws and eight 'arms' with two tentacles around the mouth.

Common Cuttlefish makes light work of crabs, fish and even small cuttlefish. They don't fancy us humans though so you'll be safe to watch them being cool 😎

A brilliant photo of a Snakelocks Anemone. They may look beautiful and harmless but don't touch! They can release tiny barbs that have proven very irritating if you get them in your eyes 👀

This striking character is a male Corkwing Wrasse (Symphodus melops) and is carrying seaweed to an elaborate nest that he's working on.

This Corkwing Wrasse is well in season (photo taken in spring/summer) with his bright colouration 🌈
