Plymouth Ocean Hackathon: Meet, greet and learn

30th October 2023 @ 6:00 pm 7:30 pm

The countdown is on to our first Ocean Hackathon event in Plymouth (and the UK)! Supported by The Arts Institute and the Marine Institute at the University of Plymouth, and Plymouth Sounds National Marine Park the Ocean Hackathon Event is the place to meet like-minded individuals and be immersed in a weekend of innovation, creativity, and collaboration.

Are you thinking of joining the event and want more detail? Have you registered already and have a question about the event? Join the Plymouth Ocean Hackathon team for this pre-event meetup where you can hear more about the challenges and how you can get involved. We will dive into the details of the Plymouth Ocean Hackathon and answer any questions you may have – remember there’s no such thing as a wrong question!

At this FREE event, you will:

• Hear more about the Plymouth Ocean Hackathon event format

• Hear more about Plymouth being a global centre of excellence for marine and consequently an ideal test-bed for innovation and entrepreneurship.

• Hear more about the Plymouth Ocean Hackathon® challenges and how you could get involved

• Network and meet potential co-founders and the organisers behind the event

What’s on the cards?

Welcome drinks and networking

Welcome to this evening and what is Plymouth Ocean Hackathon?

Plymouth Ocean Hackathon organiser Emily Barrett will introduce the Ocean Hackathon event, what it is, how it works and why it is an exciting event to be a part of.

Why now? Why Plymouth?

Rupert Lorraine, Director of The Arts Institute, will talk about why the University is excited to be hosting this event.

We will then hear from Elaine Hayes, CEO of Plymouth Sound National Marine Park about the UK’s first National Marine Park, the unique waters of Plymouth Sound and why now is the best time to develop ideas, innovation, and engagement with our marine environment.

The Challenges (Challenge owners)

The Plymouth Ocean Hackathon Challenge owners will pitch the ideas that teams will work on over the weekend and highlight what skills they are looking for in their team

Networking

An opportunity to network, discuss ideas and the skills required and do some team match making!

There will also be an opportunity to ‘dive’ into the Levinsky Gallery and explore our latest exhibition, Ocean, where science and creativity meet.

Thank you and close

Good to go? If you don’t have any questions for our team the pre-event meetup is also a great chance to meet the challenge owners, the organising team, and fellow attendees (or soon to be teammates!), plot plans for future teams, exchange ideas and more!

This meetup event is FREE and open to anyone (registered or not for the Plymouth Ocean Hackathon). Feel free to (virtually) poke your head through the door and say hello!
