Ships Project Waterfront Clean Up

We are helping the SHIPS project (a maritime archaeology CIC based here in Plymouth) with their 1000 tyres project. On the 7^th October between 9:00 – 16:00 we will be doing litter picks in the water, but specifically focussing on removing the larger stuff (tyres, trollies, bikes, parts of boats etc.). These larger physical pollutants can damage the local environment in many ways, here are a few:

·       Leeching – a consistent, slow release of pollutants like micro plastics and heavy metals;

·       Sudden leaking of refined fossil fuels like petrol and diesel, which is incredibly poisonous to marine life.

·       Providing a substrate for smaller secondary pollutants to catch, where you end up with a complex net of physical pollutions, incredibly good at entangling and trapping marine life.
