Come face to face with Zeus, the resident Zebra Shark, in a jaws-dropping hands-on encounter
The National Marine Aquarium (NMA) is launching a brand new experience that will bring visitors closer than ever to one of the ocean’s most fascinating creatures. Beginning on Saturday 5th April, visitors and gill-seekers will have the chance to meet Zeus, the Aquarium’s Zebra Shark, in an interactive and educational shark feeding adventure.

This 45-minute, behind-the-scenes encounter offers an exclusive look at the life of Zeus and the important role sharks play in marine ecosystems. Guests will embark on a guided tour of the NMA’s three largest exhibits, learning about the impressive shark residents that call the Aquarium home while also helping to uncover common misconceptions about these incredible creatures. From the top of the Atlantic Ocean Exhibit, the deepest in the UK, participants will prepare Zeus’ lunch, weigh and add essential vitamins to his food and feed him directly, under the guidance of the Aquarium’s expert Animal Supervisor.
Marcus Williams, Curator at the National Marine Aquarium, said, “There’s something magical about feeding a shark. This experience offers an unforgettable connection to the ocean, deepening your understanding of the animals in our care and appreciation of marine life.”
In addition to meeting Zeus, participants may also catch a glimpse of other marine life, including Southern Stingrays, Nurse Sharks, Sandbar Sharks, Sand Tiger Sharks and even Friday, the Aquarium’s resident Green Sea Turtle. This intimate experience is designed for up to two participants at a time and is available for anyone aged eight and above. Children between 8 and 15 are required to be accompanied by an adult. The adventure will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, beginning at 10:30 AM.

Beyond the thrill of feeding a Zebra Shark – which typically grows between 2 and 4 metres in size – this experience also serves a greater purpose by directly supporting the work of the Ocean Conservation Trust, the charity that operates the National Marine Aquarium. Through this initiative, guests will not only forge a personal connection with marine life but also contribute to essential conservation efforts aimed at protecting the world’s oceans.
With limited spaces available, early booking is recommended. Guests can now book their spot by visiting the NMA’s website. The experience also includes a same day admission to the Aquarium, allowing visitors to explore even more of the UK’s largest conservation aquarium after their time with Zeus.
