The Chestnut Appeal raises funds to help men with prostate cancer and their families across Devon and Cornwall.

The aim of the Chestnut Appeal is to: Increase awareness, fund specialist nurses and fund the latest treatments not available on the NHS.

The Chestnut Appeal will be running their summer series of fundraising swims, with more details found below.

The 2022 Drakes Island swim will take place on Sunday 3 July with a swim time of around 8am

The swim starts on the beach at Firestone Bay with swimmers setting out for the Island, round a marker buoy and making their way back to the beach a distance of around 1.5km.  Registration for the swim will take place in the Royal William Yard.

The 2022 Cawsand swim will take place on Sunday 10 July with a swim time of around 8.30-9am

There are two distances;  2km and 4km.  please make sure you choose the distance you wish to swim when registering.

The 2km swim will see swimmers set off from the beach at Cawsand and swim along the Bay to Kingsand, to the Mermaid Buoy, to a 1km marker buoy and back inside the swim buoys.  The 4km swim will follow the same route but swim a further 1km along the coastline to Hooe Lake Point and back.

The 2022 Breakwater Swim will take place on Sunday 24 July with a swim time of around 9am.

Swimmers will register at Mount Batten and board the boat ‘The Plymouth Sound’ at Mount Batten Jetty.  The trip to the eastern end of the Breakwater close to Bovisand Pier will take around 20 minutes.  Swimmers will alight the boat at the eastern end of the Breakwater near to Bovisand Pier.  The swim route will be along the coastline at Jennycliff Bay a distance of around 3.2km.  Swimmers will be flanked by paddleboarders who will guide swimmers across the Bay.  The route takes swimmers to the right of the Flyrix Buoy before making a straight line to the beach at Mount Batten.

We love it when historic vessels pass through the marine park. Such a lovely sight 💙

This is the Lynher Tamar River barge. It was built in 1896 and underwent a restoration in 1990s. Now it is used for education workshops and sailing experiences around #PSNMP and the River Tamar.

Ever wondered what it's like to be a Plymouth Sound National Marine Park volunteer?

We had a chat with Maddie from @plymuni at one of our events, and here's her take on volunteering with us. We agree with Maddie; just give it a go! 😄
