The Drake’s Island Paddle 2022

3rd July 2022 @ 8:00 am 10:00 am

Take on a charity SUP challenge to raise money for The Chestnut Appeal and local water safety.

The Drake’s Island Paddle is a fun SUP race on Sunday 3rd July at South West SUP in Royal William Yard. Taking place the same day as the Drake’s Island Swim, all profit from the event will be donated to the Chestnut Appeal and the Wave after Wave water safety initiative.

The Drakes Island Paddle is a perfect introduction to SUP racing involving a lap of the island from SWSUP at Firestone Arch – a course distance of just over 3km. There will be full safety cover and control of shipping movements for the duration of the event.

This is a fun race for all paddlers but is aimed at those with their own board and you must have previous experience to participate. If you would like to hire a board for the event, contact info@southwestsup.co.uk.

If you would like to take part as a team contact info@southwestsup.co.uk for availability of 4 and 8 person paddleboards. A SUPer fun way to take part, have fun on the water and support local charities!

There will be a race briefing at Firestone Arch at 8am before everyone takes to the water, aiming for an 830am race start. The paddle route should take a maximum of 1 hour even at a leisurely pace!

We love it when historic vessels pass through the marine park. Such a lovely sight πŸ’™

This is the Lynher Tamar River barge. It was built in 1896 and underwent a restoration in 1990s. Now it is used for education workshops and sailing experiences around #PSNMP and the River Tamar.

Ever wondered what it's like to be a Plymouth Sound National Marine Park volunteer?

We had a chat with Maddie from @plymuni at one of our events, and here's her take on volunteering with us. We agree with Maddie; just give it a go! πŸ˜„

Today we're celebrating our amazing coastal ranger team as part of #EnglishTourismWeek23

Sam, Kate and Nick deliver events across Plymouth to a range of different people and ages, breaking down barriers and encouraging participation in, under, around and on the water.

You will also spot them at our open day at the National Marine Aquarium today, so do go up and say hello πŸ‘‹

Great job team! πŸ’™
