National Marine Park Big Blue Splash

23rd July 2022 @ 8:00 am 24th July 2022 @ 5:00 pm

Big Blue Splash

Here in Plymouth, we have a lot to celebrate, including our beautiful and special coastline and exciting Marine Park status! On 23 and 24 July, we will proudly mark this fantastic fact with a bumper weekend of FREE activities for all to enjoy!

Both adults and children will be encouraged to dive in and try out something new across the weekend.

Activities

Taster sessions out on the water will include stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, guided snorkelling, open water swimming and even SUP yoga – the ultimate test of balance with yoga on a paddle board.

On shore activities include rock pooling, art workshops, the chance to try e-bikes and even plogging – a combination of jogging and litter picking that’s beneficial for wellbeing and for the environment.

There will also be performances, music, demos, food, and much, much more happening all across the city making this a bumper weekend to remember!

Where is it?

Activities will take place at Tinside Lido, the Hoe Foreshore, Mount Edgcumbe, Mount Batten and at Firestone Bay.

How to book

The booking system is now live on the Visit Plymouth website.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund

The Big Blue Splash event has been funded through the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park Heritage Horizon Award, which has been made possible with a Β£9.5 million grant from the Heritage Fund, thanks to money raised by National Lottery players.

We love it when historic vessels pass through the marine park. Such a lovely sight πŸ’™

This is the Lynher Tamar River barge. It was built in 1896 and underwent a restoration in 1990s. Now it is used for education workshops and sailing experiences around #PSNMP and the River Tamar.

Ever wondered what it's like to be a Plymouth Sound National Marine Park volunteer?

We had a chat with Maddie from @plymuni at one of our events, and here's her take on volunteering with us. We agree with Maddie; just give it a go! πŸ˜„
