About
Join us at Mount Batten Tower for a relaxed and purposeful Sea Watch, and experience Plymouth Sound at two of its most special moments of the day.
We’ll be running two guided sessions:
Sunrise Watch (AM): 06:00 – 09:00
Sunset Watch (PM): 16:00 – 21:00
From the top of the tower, you get an incredible view across the Sound. Watching the sunrise from here is something special, the light slowly spreading across the water, the sea coming to life, and the day beginning quietly around you. In the evening, the sunset brings a completely different feel, with changing colours, softer light, and a calm, reflective atmosphere as the day winds down.
Both sessions are timed around high tide, when there’s a better chance of spotting dolphins moving through the Sound as they feed and travel. We’ll show you what to look for and help record any sightings as part of the Sea Watch Foundation’s national survey, so everything you see contributes to real marine science.
It’s a simple activity, but a powerful one, spending time looking out to sea, noticing what’s around you, and sharing that experience with others. Whether you spot dolphins or not, just being there at these times of day makes it worthwhile.
No experience is needed. Just come along with warm clothing, a bit of curiosity, and take the chance to see Plymouth Sound from a different perspective.
No need to book, just turn up!
