About

Join us for the first of two community shanty workshops exploring the rich maritime heritage of the Tamar and South East Cornwall through song. Led by experienced folk singer and choir leader Sian Jamison, this welcoming session will introduce a selection of traditional and contemporary shanties inspired by the historic industries that shaped our coastal communities, including fishing, mining and maritime trade.

Part of the Tales of the Tides: Voices of the Sea heritage project, the workshop offers an opportunity to discover the stories behind the songs while learning pieces that will be performed in a public showcase the following week. No previous singing experience is required, and all voices are welcome.

Taking place at the Church of St Nicholas & Faith, Saltash, this free workshop celebrates the people, places and industries that connected Cornwall and Plymouth Sound through the sea. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to attend the second workshop and performance.

Free entry. Donations to the church are welcome. Hosted by Saltash Old Cornwall Society in partnership with Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and Kernow Goth.
