On the week commencing 14 April 2025 the UK’s first National Marine Park will welcome the return of two beloved swimming pontoons that have proven to be hugely popular over the past few years.
The pontoons are located inside the Tinside Beach swimming area with staggered positions, one closer to shore for younger or less experienced swimmers and the other further out.
The pontoons are the same design to last year with the neon ladders making them easier to spot from the shoreline and in the water.
The pontoons will be installed by Cattewater Harbour Commissioners (CHC) and will remain in position over the spring and summer, before being removed ahead of winter to be safely stored for next year.
You will also find a shower installed at the edge of Tinside Cove. The water from this shower is perfect for a quick rinse post swim, but we please ask you to not use any products as this water goes directly back into the National Marine Park – the wildlife won’t thank you for it!
There will be weekly checks for the pontoons, but if you notice any problems or damage to the pontoons, please notify CHC at: 01752 836963 or email to marineops@plymouthport.org.uk. CHC kindly ask that swimmers do not report damage to their social media channels as they aren’t able to monitor them as much as they’d like to.
Keep a look out for our water safety blogs and social media posts for the most up to date information on swimming around West Hoe of neighbouring spots. But for now, enjoy!
