/sea matterS/ brings together a collective body of analogue photographic work created along Plymouth’s coastline as part of the Blue Sparks project.
Through encounters with people, places and stories found along the shoreline, the exhibition explores our relationship with the sea, tracing connections between memory, identity and belonging. Using locally gathered seaweed as an experimental photographic developer, the project explores more sustainable approaches to analogue image-making, allowing the sea to become both subject and material.
The exhibition celebrates the people, shared experiences and creative processes that have shaped this journey. A special invitation to all the families we photographed during the project – come and discover your portraits and celebrate with us!
Alongside the exhibition, join us for a slow, hands-on exploration of your own connection with the sea. Through pinhole photography, still-life compositions, poetry and personal objects, we will transform memories and stories into photographic images using seaweed-based developer.
