Mount Batten
What is the Mount Batten Watersports and
Activities Centre?
The Mount Batten Peninsula is home to the Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre (MBC), a dynamic hub that has been helping people get out on the water for more than 25 years. From here, visitors, schools and residents can discover their National Marine Park from the shoreline to the open sea through a range of water and land based-sports.

The Tower
The MBC team are also custodians of the historic Mount Batten Tower, a 17th-century landmark with inspiring views of the National Marine Park. Investments in new pontoons, accessible facilities and improved spaces for visitors will open up even more opportunities to get afloat and explore Plymouth’s maritime heritage.
The Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre
As an Anchor Point, the Mount Batten Peninsula is a true launchpad into the Park. The Centre offers sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking and more, often giving people their first experience on the water. By combining adventure, skills and history, it helps people build confidence while strengthening their connection with Plymouth Sound and its stories.
A New Era
The Mount Batten Centre is in the middle of an exciting new chapter, thanks to a powerful blend of national and local backing. Supported by The National Lottery Heritage funding, UK Government investment and Plymouth City Council funding, this regeneration will breathe fresh life into one of Plymouth Sound’s most iconic waterfront hubs.
Together, we are helping helping to create a more welcoming, accessible and future‑ready Centre that opens up the water to more people, from local families and young people to community groups and visitors. It is a bold step that reflects Plymouth’s pride in its coast and its commitment to making our National Marine Park a place everyone can enjoy, care for and help thrive for generations to come.
