Mount Edgcumbe

Where is Mount Edgcumbe?

Across the water from Plymouth lies Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, a landscape of ancient barrows, wooded valleys, historic parkland and hidden coves. Its 865 acres of carefully managed woodland and open space open free to the public. A beautiful backdrop to the National Marine Park, it also helps keep our waters clean and rich in marine life.

Archaeology Digs

Our Community Archaeology Digs brought Plymouth Sound’s rich history to life, giving people the chance to get hands on with the past. Delivered in partnership with Mount Edgcumbe Country Park and the SHIPS Project, the digs invited local communities to explore and uncover stories from the shoreline and beyond.

Running throughout 2025, the programme offered guided opportunities to learn new skills, work alongside experts and take part in real archaeological investigation. It gave people a direct connection to the heritage of the Sound, revealing the layers of history that shape this place today.
